Visit a Winery
Visit one of the prestigious winemakers in the region or enjoy a wine-tasting in the dusty cellar of a local cantina.
The Piemonte offers 17 DOCG and 42 DOC labels, many of which are produced in the UNESCO vineyard landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato: from the red wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Ghemme, Gattinara and Brachetto d’Acqui, to the white wines Roero Arneis, Erbaluce, Gavi, Alta Langa and Asti Spumante.
In an around Mombaruzzo there are many winemakers and cooperative cantinas where you can taste and buy locally produced wine:
Around the corner of A Casa, you will find the TreSecoli Cantina. Founded in 1887, TreSecoli is the oldest wine cooperative in the Piemonte offering a very wide range of red, white, and rose wines, of which 90% are DOCG or DOC denominated (www.tresecoli.com)
Pico Maccario in Mombaruzzo is one of the most prestigious and innovative winemakers in the area with more than one hundred hectares planted with Barbera, Viognier, Cortese, Sauvignon Blanc, and Moscato d’Asti varietals. All around the single vineyard estate, over five thousand rose plants and one thousand coloured pencil poles have been planted. (www.picomaccario.it).
The Contratto winery in Canelli was founded in 1867, when Giuseppe Contratto began vinifying Moscato from Monferrato, producing one of the first Italian sparkling wines refermented in the bottle. During this same time, the Contratto family began building its historic cellars, which would finally be finished in the beginning of the 20th century. Contratto organises guided tour of the cellars, followed by a tasting (www.contratto.it).
